KIZIGURO GENOCIDE MEMORIAL SITE UPGRADE BEGINS IN RWANDA
The upgrading of Kiziguro Genocide Memorial Site has kick-off in Rwanda. The Kiziguro Genocide Memorial which was created on 11th April 1995, is a resting place to more than 14,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
Mayor of Gatsibo District, which is part of former Murambi Commune, Richard Gasana said the memorial will have more than just graves, saying that they are constructing a building where details of the victims, like pictures, will be found.
According to him, “We will also have space for history and literature written about the former Murambi commune”.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of Ibuka in Gatsibo District, Sibomana Jean Nepo said “Construction of the Kiziguro memorial is something we have been waiting for a longtime, because that place keeps history of our people”.
The upgrading will cost US$399k (Rwf380m) and will be carried out in two fiscal years.
